[FBX Import] Fix Blank Textures on Imported Models

Under Audit

Unity 2022.3.x - Unity 2023.2.x

Published Wed, Mar 18

Imported FBX models may appear untextured in Unity despite rendering correctly in Blender. This issue often stems from how textures are handled during the export and import process.

Issue

An imported FBX model displays without textures in Unity, appearing gray or untextured, despite showing correctly with textures in Blender. The FBX model was initially imported without embedded texture data.

Experimental Fixes
  • Ensure textures are placed in a Textures folder within your Unity project and manually assigned to the material slots of your FBX model.
  • Verify that the materials within Unity are correctly configured (e.g., Shader selection, Render Mode).
  • Re-export your FBX model from Blender, ensuring that texture embedding or external texture paths are correctly set.

Editor's Note:

The above fixes have not been verified by our audit team yet. They are provided exclusively for your own technical research. We recommend creating a backup of your project before proceeding with any attempts. Utilize at your own discretion!
